Active development of JAMWiki has ceased, and bug fixes and support will be limited at best. If you are interested in taking over management of JAMWiki please send an email to the jamwiki-devel mailing list.

Hi, how could I set jamwiki read only for users that are not logged in wiki? I haven't found any support in configuration. Thanks. Regards Zdenek

It can be done from Special:Admin. Check the box for "force setting of username" under "General settings". The option name has been changed for JAMWiki 0.5.3 to "Disable anonymous editing" to hopefully make it clearer what the function of that option is. -- Ryan 29-Mar-2007 08:25 PST

Remove Edit tab for Admin-Only pages

Copied from Feedback:

Hi Ryan, is it possible to hide the edit tab for pages marked "Admin-Only"? Thanks. -- Kwee Tin 14-Mar-2007 23:22 PST

I've checked a change into Subversion that should hide the edit tab from anyone who does not have permission to edit. The change will be included in the first beta, which should be out soon. -- Ryan 20-Mar-2007 21:03 PST
I forgot to disable the edit links on section headings when appropriate. I'll get that done before the release of 0.5.3 final. -- Ryan 22-Mar-2007 07:37 PST

JAMWiki 0.5.3

JAMWiki 0.5.3 beta 1

Not much new since 0.5.2, but here it is anyhow:

Changes since 0.5.2:

  • Fixed a bug that broke Resin.
  • Upgrade to Spring 2.0.3.
  • Lots of translations updates (Chinese, Dutch, German, Japanese, Polish).
  • Hide edit tabs from users without edit permission.
  • Miscellaneous minor changes.

The new code has been stable on my local box, and I'm going to push it to in a minute, but feedback is appreciated from those with time to test. -- Ryan 21-Mar-2007 20:10 PST

JAMWiki 0.5.3 beta 2

Another beta that contains minimal changes, but it's been a month since JAMWiki 0.5.2 so it feels like a new release is due:

Changes since beta1:

  • Section edit links are now also disabled when a user does not have edit permission.
  • Allow equal signs in headings.
  • Updated Polish translations.

Barring any surprises this will probably become JAMWiki 0.5.3 in the next few days. Testing is appreciated, and if anyone has translations or other updates please submit them in the next 2-3 days. -- Ryan 26-Mar-2007 21:25 PST

JAMWiki 0.5.3 final

JAMWiki 0.5.3 final is queued up and ready to go, but I submitted a story to Slashdot earlier today, and on the off-chance that it gets run I'd rather not do a release on the same day when load on the server is increased from Slashdotter clicking on the name of an article submitter. I'll push the new release either after the story gets rejected or after any Slashdot traffic has tailed off. -- Ryan 01-Apr-2007 22:39 PDT

If you haven't already, I'd suggesting sending something to the staff at as well. I'm sure there are some people over there that might be interested. -- Dan
Slashdot still has the story as "pending", so rather than continue waiting for them to process it I've gone ahead and released 0.5.3. That probably means the story will hit their front pages shortly and the servers will grind to a halt, but such is life.
Regarding, I'd be happy for anyone who is interested to submit JAMWiki to any Java, wiki, or other sites out there. I'm maintaining records on and, but further exposure would only be a good thing. -- Ryan 03-Apr-2007 22:58 PDT
