JAMWiki 0.1.1

I've just upgraded jamwiki.org to the latest code, and JAMWiki 0.1.1 beta1 is available for download from http://jamwiki.org/jamwiki-0.1.1-beta1.war. Changes so far include:

  • New GUI interface for creating/updating translations (needs further cleanup prior to release).
  • Minor edits are now saved and shown in the recent changes & history.
  • All SQL has been moved into property files.
  • Added Hungarian translations (courtesy of User:bdanee) and updated Chinese translations (courtesy of User:ewen0930).
  • (Hopefully) fixed the issue with bad filenames during file upload.
  • http://jamwiki.org/wiki/en/ now redirects to the default topic.
  • Several miscellaneous changes & bugfixes.

The to-do list includes fixing some Javascript security issues, cleaning up the translation GUI, resolving some parser issues, and other minor issues. Hopefully the 0.1.1 release will happen in the next day or two. -- Ryan 28-Jul-2006 20:14 PDT


JAMWiki 0.1.1 beta2 is now out there for anyone interested. This version includes some fairly major parser modifications to fix the scripting issues that NickJ pointed out, so any testing is welcome. By default all Javascript in Wiki topics is now disabled, but there's an admin option to re-enable it for those who need it. Other changes:

  • Translation screen cleaned up - Special:Translation, but admin access required.
  • An empty jamwiki.properties file is no longer required for setup. This should help prevent people from overwriting their properties file when upgrading.
  • Parser is more strict about escaping non-supported HTML (form tags, <a>, <img>), although most tags are allowed (let me know if I've disabled one that you need).
  • The TopArea topic is gone. Instead the logo can be specified using an admin property, and clicking on the logo automatically links to the default topic. This change was required due to the stricter parser implementation.
  • All Wiki tags are now case-insensitive.
  • Miscellaneous cleanups and fixes.

There are a few more small issues I may address before JAMWiki 0.1.1, but barring any unforeseen bugs this should be pretty close to what the final release will look like. As always, let me know if you encounter any problems. -- Ryan 29-Jul-2006 23:07 PDT


User:bdanee found a few problems with non-English characters. I think I've fixed the problem with non-English users being unable to save edits, but there's an issue remaining with the new Special:Translation function that I've thus far been unable to reproduce or figure out. At this point I think I may release 0.1.1 either tonight or tomorrow with the translation feature marked as experimental to try and get wider testing - please report success/failure at Known Issues#International Character Sets. If anyone discovers any other problems please let me know by leaving a note here or on the Bug Reports page. -- Ryan 30-Jul-2006 17:58 PDT


JAMWiki 0.1.1 is now out. The bug reported by User:bdanee is still present but I can't reproduce it and need help. If anyone else finds that JAMWiki is corrupting accented characters or other non-ASCII characters please leave a report on the Bug Reports page that contains:

  • Operating system type & language (such as Windows XP, English)
  • Browser version & language (such as IE, English).
  • If possible, the character encoding you see for a page. On Firefox this is visible from View → Character Encoding.
